Overview

About OriginPro

OriginPro exists because a spreadsheet chart is not a figure. The plot types here are the ones technical publishing actually asks for: multi-axis and multi-panel layouts, contour and heat maps, ternary and polar plots, box and violin distributions, three dimensional surfaces and waterfalls, with full control over every axis break, tick, error bar and legend entry. Output goes to vector formats at a specified resolution so a figure survives the journal production pipeline.

Analysis sits alongside the plotting rather than in a separate tool. Linear, polynomial and non-linear curve fitting with user defined functions, peak analysis with baseline detection and deconvolution, signal processing including smoothing, filtering and Fourier transforms, and statistics covering descriptive summaries, hypothesis tests and analysis of variance. Results update when the source data changes rather than needing the whole analysis run again.

That recalculation model is what makes it worth learning. An analysis is attached to the data with a recalculation mode, so replacing a data column with the next experiment's results regenerates every fit, every derived column and every figure automatically. An analysis template built once handles a run of samples with no repeated clicking at all.

Import handles the formats instruments actually produce, including delimited text with awkward headers, spreadsheet files, and a set of instrument specific formats, with an import filter saved and reused for a recurring file layout. A scripting layer and a batch processing mode take it the rest of the way for anyone with hundreds of files to work through.

Feature set

What is included in this build

  • Publication quality plot types including contour, ternary, polar, violin and 3D surfaces
  • Full control over axes, breaks, error bars, legends and layer arrangement
  • Curve fitting including non-linear and user defined functions with confidence bands
  • Peak analysis with baseline detection, integration and deconvolution
  • Signal processing with smoothing, filtering and Fourier transforms
  • Statistics covering descriptive summaries, hypothesis tests and analysis of variance
  • Automatic recalculation so figures and fits update when source data is replaced
  • Analysis templates, saved import filters, scripting and batch processing
Changes

Changed in version 2025b 10.2.5.212

  • Additional plot types added to the graphing set
  • Faster handling of worksheets with several million rows
  • Peak analysis baseline detection improved on noisy spectra
  • Import filter set extended to more instrument output formats
  • Vector export refined for cleaner output at journal resolutions
Installation

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

  1. Disable real-time protection until the installation has completed.
  2. Extract the archive to a short path with no spaces.
  3. Run setup as administrator and choose the Professional feature set.
  4. Install the bundled runtime components when offered.
  5. Set the user files folder before creating any analysis templates.
Real-time protection flags installers of this type on heuristics alone. Pause it before extracting and turn it back on once the install has finished and the application has been opened once.

Questions

Frequently asked about this title

What does Pro add over the standard build?
The extended analysis set including peak deconvolution, advanced statistics, surface fitting and additional signal processing.
Do figures update when data changes?
Yes. Analyses carry a recalculation mode, so replacing the source data regenerates fits and figures automatically.
Can an analysis be reused on new files?
Yes, through analysis templates and batch processing across a folder of similarly structured files.
Which import formats are supported?
Delimited text, spreadsheet files and a wide set of instrument formats, with saved filters for recurring layouts.
