MathWorks MATLAB R2025b
A numerical computing environment with the toolbox set unlocked, covering matrix work, signal and image processing, control design, statistics and machine learning.
About MathWorks MATLAB R2025b
MATLAB is built around the matrix. Everything is an array by default, operations apply across whole arrays without writing a loop, and the language reads close enough to the mathematics that an algorithm on paper transfers to code with very little translation. That is the reason it stays entrenched in engineering, physics, finance and signal work despite decades of alternatives.
The environment matters as much as the language. The desktop pairs an editor with a live command window, a workspace browser showing every variable and its contents, and a plotting system that turns a vector into a figure with one call. The live editor goes further and mixes code, formatted text, equations and output in a single document, which is how a lot of coursework and internal reporting now gets written.
This build ships with the toolbox set unlocked rather than the base product alone, and that is the practical difference. Signal processing, image processing, control systems, statistics and machine learning, optimisation, symbolic maths, curve fitting, parallel computing, deep learning and the instrument and data acquisition toolboxes all install, so a script that calls into a specialist function does not stop at a missing licence.
Simulink is included for block diagram modelling and simulation, which covers control system design, plant modelling and anything where a system is easier to draw than to write. Code generation, app building, unit testing and version control integration round out the working side, and code compiles down to standalone applications or shared libraries for handing to people without an installation.
What is included in this build
- Array first language where operations apply across whole matrices without loops
- Live editor combining code, formatted text, equations and output in one document
- Full toolbox set including signal, image, control, statistics and optimisation
- Machine learning and deep learning toolboxes with pretrained network support
- Simulink block diagram modelling and simulation included
- Extensive plotting and visualisation with interactive figure editing
- Parallel computing across cores and GPU acceleration for supported functions
- App designer and compiler for producing standalone applications
Changed in version 25.2.0.2998904
- Faster startup and shorter toolbox load times
- Additional pretrained networks in the deep learning toolbox
- Live editor output rendering improved for large tables
- Expanded GPU acceleration coverage across signal and image functions
- Reduced memory use when working with very large arrays
Installation walkthrough
These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.
- Confirm at least 40 GB of free space, since the full toolbox set is large and the installer needs working room.
- Disable real-time protection until the installation has finished.
- Extract or mount the image and run the installer as administrator.
- Select the toolboxes wanted during setup, since installing every one takes considerable time and space.
- Reboot once, then set the working folder and path on first launch.
