ESRI ArcGIS Pro
A desktop geographic information system for mapping, spatial analysis and cartographic output, working across two dimensional, three dimensional and time-aware data.
About ESRI ArcGIS Pro
ArcGIS Pro is the desktop end of a geographic information system: data comes in as layers, gets analysed against its own geometry and attributes, and comes out as a map, a report or a new dataset. The project model holds maps, scenes, layouts, toolboxes and data connections together, so a piece of work travels as one file rather than as a folder of loosely related things.
Analysis is where the application earns its size. The geoprocessing toolset covers overlay, proximity, surface, statistical and network operations, with each tool available from the interface, from a model built by connecting tools together, or from a script. Models and scripts are the difference between doing an analysis once and being able to repeat it on next quarter's data.
Two dimensional and three dimensional views are the same data seen differently rather than separate products. A layer symbolised on a map appears in a scene with elevation applied, terrain and building data drape correctly, and a fly-through animation records straight out of the scene view. Time-aware layers add a slider so a dataset can be played through its own history.
Cartographic output is treated as real work rather than a screenshot. Layouts hold multiple map frames at independent scales, with legends, scale bars, grids, graticules and inset maps that stay linked to their frame, and export goes to print resolution vector and raster formats that hold up when a plot is checked closely.
What is included in this build
- Project model holding maps, scenes, layouts, toolboxes and connections together
- Geoprocessing toolset covering overlay, proximity, surface, statistical and network analysis
- Model builder for chaining tools into a repeatable analysis without scripting
- Scripting environment for automating processing across large datasets
- Linked two dimensional maps and three dimensional scenes over the same data
- Time-aware layers with a slider for playing a dataset through its history
- Layout design with linked legends, scale bars, grids, graticules and inset maps
- Export to print resolution vector and raster formats
Changed in version 3.7.1
- Faster drawing of very large vector layers
- Improved three dimensional scene performance with detailed building data
- Additional geoprocessing tools in the statistical toolset
- Better handling of long running processing jobs in the background
- Reduced project load times on projects with many data connections
Installation walkthrough
These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.
- Disable real-time protection until the install has finished.
- Extract the archive to a short path on a drive with at least 30 GB free.
- Install the bundled runtime prerequisites when setup offers them.
- Run setup as administrator and choose the interface language.
- Reboot once, then point the project and cache folders at a fast internal drive.
