It is a few megabytes, and it builds the deployment configuration for the suite installation then hands it to the vendor delivery engine, which streams the actual components down from the official servers. Nothing is repacked, which is why the resulting installation behaves exactly like one built by a corporate deployment team.

The value is in the choices it exposes. Edition, release channel, architecture, interface language, proofing tools and the exact application list are all selectable before anything downloads, so a machine can take the word processor and spreadsheet without the mail client, or take every application including the database and layout tools. Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

1. Remove any existing suite installation first, using the cleanup option in the tool itself.
2. Extract the archive to a local folder and run the front end as administrator.
3. Pick the edition, architecture, channel and interface language before starting.
4. Deselect any application that is not wanted, since removing one afterwards is more work.
5. Leave the machine connected until the streaming stage completes, then reboot once.
