Overview

About Adobe Acrobat Pro DC 2026

Acrobat Pro is the difference between viewing a PDF and actually working on one. Text edits happen in place with reflow, pages get inserted, rotated, extracted and reordered from a thumbnail panel, and a scanned document becomes searchable text through OCR rather than staying a picture of a page. Everything happens locally, which matters for anything confidential.

Conversion runs in both directions and holds structure rather than dumping a wall of text. A PDF exports to Word, Excel or PowerPoint with tables and lists intact, and Office documents convert back with bookmarks, links and tagging preserved. For long documents the difference between a structured conversion and a flat one is measured in hours of cleanup avoided.

The review and forms tooling is what pushes it into office workflows. Comments, stamps and markup merge from several reviewers into one file, form fields are detected automatically on a scanned layout, and responses collect into a spreadsheet. Redaction genuinely removes the underlying content rather than drawing a black rectangle over it, and the sanitise pass strips metadata and hidden layers.

Output control covers the production end too: preflight profiles, PDF/A and PDF/X conversion for archival and print, file size optimisation with per-element control, password and certificate security, and batch actions that apply the same sequence to a whole folder.

Installation

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

  1. Close all browsers, since the PDF handler registers during setup.
  2. Disable real-time protection for the length of the install.
  3. Extract the archive and run setup as administrator.
  4. Remove any existing Reader installation when the installer offers to.
  5. Reboot once so the print-to-PDF driver registers correctly.
Real-time protection flags installers of this type on heuristics alone. Pause it before extracting and turn it back on once the install has finished and the application has been opened once.

Questions

Frequently asked about this title

Does it replace Reader?
Yes. Pro supersedes it entirely, and the installer offers to remove Reader during setup.
Is OCR limited to English?
No. A wide language set is available and is selected per document before the recognition pass.
Does redaction actually remove content?
Yes, applied redactions delete the underlying text and image data rather than masking it.
Can it batch process a folder?
Yes. Actions apply a saved sequence of steps to every file in a folder in one run.
