Overview

About Microsoft Office 2019 Professional Plus

Office 2019 Professional Plus is the perpetual release rather than the subscription one, which is exactly why people still go looking for it. It installs once, does not phone home for entitlement checks, and keeps working the same way in a year as it does today. On machines that live offline or on a locked down network, that predictability is the entire point.

The Professional Plus set is the complete one: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher, OneNote and Skype for Business. The cheaper retail bundles drop Access and Publisher, which is a problem the moment someone sends a database or a laid out newsletter, so the Professional Plus edition avoids a whole category of file-will-not-open conversations.

Feature wise this is a mature release. Excel has the newer function set including TEXTJOIN, IFS and CONCAT along with funnel charts and map charts, Word has the focus reading mode and improved inking, PowerPoint has morph and zoom transitions, and Outlook handles focused inbox and updated contact cards. None of it is experimental, all of it is stable.

The package carries both 32-bit and 64-bit installers in the same image. The 64-bit build is the right choice on any modern machine unless a legacy add-in or macro library specifically requires the 32-bit one, which does still happen with older line of business tooling.

Installation

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

  1. Uninstall any existing Office installation first, including trial versions preloaded by an OEM.
  2. Disable real-time protection until the installation has completed.
  3. Mount or extract the image and run the setup executable as administrator.
  4. Choose either the 32-bit or 64-bit path, and pick the interface language before continuing.
  5. Reboot once after setup, then open Word to confirm the suite launches cleanly.
Real-time protection flags installers of this type on heuristics alone. Pause it before extracting and turn it back on once the install has finished and the application has been opened once.

Questions

Frequently asked about this title

Can it sit alongside a newer Office?
It is not recommended. Two Office generations on one machine fight over file associations and shared components.
Should the 32-bit or 64-bit build be used?
64-bit on any modern machine, unless a specific legacy add-in requires the 32-bit build.
Is Access included?
Yes. Access and Publisher are part of the Professional Plus set and are both present.
Does an existing trial need removing?
Yes. Preloaded OEM trials must be uninstalled first or setup will fail partway through.
