Internet Download Manager
A segmented download accelerator that splits every file into parallel streams and puts a capture button on media it finds in the browser.
About Internet Download Manager
IDM does one thing and does it hard: it takes a single file transfer and splits it into up to thirty two simultaneous connections, then reassembles the pieces on completion. On a connection where a browser download sits at a fraction of the available bandwidth, the difference is not subtle, and on a line that drops out regularly the resume logic is the reason a multi-gigabyte transfer ever finishes at all.
The browser integration is the part most people actually use day to day. Once the extension is registered, a capture panel appears over media playing in a page, and clicking it hands the stream to IDM with the correct headers and referrer already set. Files that would otherwise need a right click and a save dialog land in a categorised folder tree instead.
The scheduler is worth setting up properly. Queues run at defined times, so a large download list can be told to start after midnight and stop before the working day, and the dial-up style hang-up-when-done option still exists for metered connections. Completed queues can shut the machine down on their own.
Everything else is quality of life built up over a long product life: a site grabber for pulling a whole directory listing, per-site login credentials stored for authenticated downloads, speed limiter presets, virus scanner handoff after completion, and a download list that survives reboots without losing partial progress.

Installation walkthrough
These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.
- Close every browser window completely before starting, including background instances.
- Extract the archive to any folder and run the installer as administrator.
- Allow the integration module to register when the installer prompts.
- Reopen the browser and enable the extension when it asks for permission.
- Set the default download folder and connection count from the options panel.
