D5 Render
A real time ray traced visualisation package that takes a model straight out of a modelling application and produces lit stills and walkthroughs without a render queue.
About D5 Render
Architectural visualisation used to mean setting a scene up, starting a render, and finding out an hour later that the light was wrong. Real time ray tracing removes that loop entirely. The viewport shows the final lighting as the sun angle is dragged, and the only thing the final render adds is resolution and sample count.
The link back to the modelling application is what makes it practical on a live project. A synchronised plugin pushes geometry changes through without a re-export, so a wall moved in the model updates in the visualisation while the materials, lights and camera positions all stay where they were put. That is the difference between visualisation being part of the design process and being a thing done once at the end.
The asset library carries the weight on the content side: furniture, fittings, vegetation, vehicles and people, all with materials already set up, plus a material library where a surface is dropped onto geometry rather than built from parameter sliders. Scattering places vegetation or crowds across a surface in one operation.
Output covers stills, animation paths and interactive walkthroughs. Camera paths are keyframed on a simple timeline, the video renders with motion blur and depth of field, and a standalone walkthrough exports as a single file that a client opens without owning any of the software.
What is included in this build
- Real time ray traced viewport showing final lighting while the scene is edited
- Synchronised plugins pushing model changes through without a re-export
- Asset library of furniture, fittings, vegetation, vehicles and people
- Material library applied by dropping a surface onto geometry
- Scattering for placing vegetation and crowds across a surface in one pass
- Physically based sun, sky and weather with draggable time of day
- Keyframed camera paths with motion blur and depth of field on video output
- Standalone walkthrough export that opens without the software installed
Changed in version 2.6.1
- Faster viewport convergence on scenes with heavy vegetation
- Improved denoising on interior scenes lit only by artificial sources
- Additional assets and materials added to the bundled library
- More stable synchronisation with host modelling applications
- Reduced memory use on very large scenes
Installation walkthrough
These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.
- Install the current graphics driver from the GPU vendor before starting.
- Check free disk space, since the asset library is larger than the application itself.
- Extract the archive to a short path and disable protection for the length of setup.
- Run setup as administrator and select the host applications the plugin should register with.
- Set the asset library and cache locations on first launch before importing a model.
