About SolidWorks 2026 Premium

SolidWorks is parametric solid modelling for mechanical work: a part is a feature tree built on sketches with dimensions and relations, and changing a dimension near the root rebuilds everything downstream. That history is the point. A design revision is an edit to an existing model rather than a redraw.

Assemblies mate parts together with the same discipline. Mates define how components relate, motion can be dragged to check clearance and interference, and configurations hold multiple variants of a part or an assembly in one file. Large assembly mode keeps a model with thousands of components workable rather than unusable.

Drawings are generated from the model and stay associative. Views, sections, details and exploded views update when the model changes, dimensions carry through from the sketch, and the bill of materials builds itself from the assembly tree. GD and T annotation and DimXpert cover the tolerance side properly.

The Premium set adds the pieces that push it past modelling: simulation for stress, displacement and factor of safety studies, routing for piping, tubing and electrical harnesses, sheet metal and weldment environments, tolerance stack analysis, and photorealistic rendering for presentation output. CAM and inspection tooling round out the manufacturing end.

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

1. Check the disk space first. The full Premium install is large and setup will stall if space runs out.
2. Disable real-time protection for the whole installation.
3. Extract the archive to a short path and run setup as administrator.
4. Select the Premium add-ins and the interface language during the component selection step.
5. Reboot once, then enable the required add-ins from the tools menu on first launch.
