Overview

About CSI ETABS Ultimate

ETABS is built around the way buildings actually get designed. The model is organised by storey rather than as a loose collection of members, so a typical floor is defined once and repeated up the building, and a change to that floor propagates everywhere it appears. For multi-storey work that structure alone removes an enormous amount of repetitive modelling.

The analysis side covers what building design requires. Static and dynamic analysis, response spectrum and time history, P-Delta and buckling, staged construction and nonlinear behaviour are all available, with automatic lateral load generation for wind and seismic against the selected code. Floor systems, shear walls, ramps and slabs are modelled as objects rather than as raw meshes.

Design follows the analysis inside the same model. Steel frame, concrete frame, composite beam, shear wall and slab design all run against the chosen code, with results reported per member and the governing combination identified. Sections can be optimised automatically and the analysis rerun until the design converges.

The output end handles what has to leave the office. Detailed drawings, schedules and quantity takeoffs generate from the designed model, reports assemble with the tables and diagrams an approving engineer expects, and the model exchanges with modelling and detailing packages so the structural work lands in the wider building model.

Feature set

What is included in this build

  • Storey based modelling with typical floors defined once and repeated
  • Floor systems, shear walls, ramps and slabs modelled as objects
  • Static, dynamic, response spectrum, time history and nonlinear analysis
  • Automatic wind and seismic load generation against the selected code
  • Steel, concrete, composite, shear wall and slab design in the same model
  • Automatic section optimisation with the analysis rerun to convergence
  • Drawings, schedules and quantity takeoffs generated from the model
  • Exchange with building modelling and detailing packages
Changes

Changed in version 22.7.0.4095

  • Faster solver on models with high storey counts
  • Additional design code revisions in the code set
  • Improved meshing of irregular floor openings
  • Better staged construction handling on tall structures
  • Report output tidied for very long member schedules
Installation

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

  1. Disable real-time protection until the install has finished.
  2. Extract the archive to a short path with no spaces.
  3. Install the bundled runtime prerequisites when setup offers them.
  4. Run setup as administrator and choose the design code region.
  5. Reboot once before opening the first model.
Real-time protection flags installers of this type on heuristics alone. Pause it before extracting and turn it back on once the install has finished and the application has been opened once.

Questions

Frequently asked about this title

Is it different from a general analysis package?
Yes. The model is organised by storey and floor system, which suits buildings specifically.
Are the design codes included?
Yes, the international code set installs with the application.
Can it exchange with building modelling packages?
Yes, through the common structural exchange formats in both directions.
What drives memory use?
Storey count and the density of the floor meshing. Tall buildings with fine meshes want thirty two gigabytes.
