CLO Standalone
Garment design with real cloth simulation, so a 2D pattern is sewn together and draped on a body in the same window and a fit change is seen without cutting fabric.
About CLO Standalone
The traditional route from a pattern to a garment involves cutting a sample in calico, sewing it, fitting it, marking the changes and starting again. CLO replaces the first several rounds of that with simulation. The pattern is drawn flat, the seams are defined, and the cloth drapes on a virtual body in real time, so a change to a panel shows up as a change in fit immediately.
The pattern side is a proper 2D drafting environment with the tools the trade expects: darts, pleats, notches, seam allowances, grading rules, internal lines and symmetry. Patterns import from and export to the standard formats used in industry, so an existing block can be brought in rather than redrawn, and a finished pattern goes out to a cutting room without a translation step.
The simulation is what makes the fit believable. Fabric properties are physical rather than cosmetic, with weight, stretch, bend and friction all set per material, so a stiff denim and a light silk behave differently on the same pattern. Pressure and strain maps show where a garment pulls, which turns an opinion about tightness into a reading, and the avatar's measurements, pose and body shape are adjustable.
The presentation end is covered too. Materials take textures, prints, trims, buttons, zips and topstitching, rendering produces a photographic image or a turntable of the finished garment, and animation walks the avatar so drape and movement can be judged. Colourways and size variants are held as versions of the same garment rather than as separate files.
What is included in this build
- 2D pattern drafting with darts, pleats, notches, seam allowances and grading
- Real time cloth simulation draping the sewn pattern on a virtual body
- Physical fabric properties for weight, stretch, bend and friction per material
- Pressure and strain maps showing where a garment pulls
- Adjustable avatar measurements, body shape and pose
- Textures, prints, trims, buttons, zips and topstitching on materials
- Rendering to photographic stills, turntables and walk animations
- Standard pattern format import and export for the cutting room
Changed in version 2025.2.236
- Faster simulation on garments with high panel counts
- Improved fabric property presets covering more material types
- Better collision handling on layered garments
- Additional avatar body shapes and poses in the default library
- Reduced render times on turntable output
Installation walkthrough
These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.
- Install the current graphics driver from the GPU vendor first.
- Disable real-time protection for the length of the installation.
- Extract the archive to a short path and run setup as administrator.
- Allow the bundled runtime and content libraries to install rather than skipping them.
- Set the project and library paths on first launch before starting a garment.
