Overview

About Chaos Enscape

Enscape is a plugin rather than a separate application, and that is the entire design decision. It installs into Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, ArchiCAD and Vectorworks, and opens a rendered window beside the modelling viewport. Move a wall and the render updates. There is no export, no scene setup and no round trip.

For design work that immediacy changes how rendering gets used. Instead of being a presentation step at the end of a project, it becomes something running on a second monitor while the model is being built, so material and lighting decisions get made while they are still cheap to change.

The asset library covers what a scene needs to look inhabited: furniture, vegetation, people, vehicles, lighting and accessories, all placed directly in the host application so they live in the model rather than in a separate render scene. Materials add displacement, reflection and grass to surfaces already defined in the model.

Output covers stills, panoramas, animation from camera paths, and a standalone walkthrough file that a client can open and explore without owning any of the software. Virtual reality output is supported directly for headset review sessions.

Installation

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

  1. Install the host modelling application first, since the plugin registers into it during setup.
  2. Close the host application completely before running the installer.
  3. Disable real-time protection until setup finishes.
  4. Run setup as administrator and select which host applications to register with.
  5. Reopen the host application and confirm the plugin ribbon or toolbar has appeared.
Real-time protection flags installers of this type on heuristics alone. Pause it before extracting and turn it back on once the install has finished and the application has been opened once.

Questions

Frequently asked about this title

Does it run standalone?
No. It is a plugin and needs one of the supported host applications installed.
Will it register with several hosts at once?
Yes. Select every installed host during setup and it registers with all of them.
Can a client view the output without the software?
Yes. The standalone walkthrough export opens on any machine as a single file.
Is a ray tracing capable GPU required?
Strongly recommended. Older cards run it but the real time quality drops noticeably.
