Capture One Pro
A raw processor built around colour accuracy and tethered shooting, with session and catalogue workflows and layer based local adjustments.
About Capture One Pro
Capture One is chosen for two reasons above all others: the colour and the tethering. The raw engine applies camera specific profiles built by hand rather than generic curves, and the difference shows most in skin tones and in saturated colours that other processors push towards clipping. For commercial and portrait work, that starting point saves a correction pass on every frame.
Tethered shooting is where it takes over a studio entirely. A camera connected by cable delivers frames straight into the session as they are taken, a live view runs on the monitor for composition and focus, capture pilot lets a client browse and rate on a tablet without touching the workstation, and adjustments applied to the first frame carry onto everything shot afterwards.
Local adjustments work through layers rather than a single stack. Each layer carries its own set of tools with a mask painted, gradated, drawn as a radial shape or generated from a luminosity or colour range, and layers can be copied between images with the mask intact. The colour editor isolates a specific hue range and edits it independently, which is the tool most people move across for.
File handling supports two different working styles. Sessions keep everything for one shoot in a self contained folder that copies to another machine intact, which suits job by job work. Catalogues manage a large ongoing library with keywords, ratings and smart albums. Output goes through recipes that produce several deliverables at once, each with its own size, format, sharpening and watermark.

Installation walkthrough
These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.
- Install the camera manufacturer driver first if tethering will be used.
- Disable real-time protection until the install finishes.
- Extract the archive to a folder with a short path.
- Run setup as administrator and choose the interface language.
- Store sessions and catalogues on a fast internal drive rather than a network share.
