Boris FX Mocha Pro 2026
Planar tracking, rotoscoping and object removal as both a standalone application and a plugin, for shots where a point tracker gives up.
About Boris FX Mocha Pro 2026
Mocha solves the tracking problems that break every other approach. A point tracker needs a high contrast feature that stays visible for the whole shot, and real footage rarely provides one. Planar tracking works from the movement of a surface instead, so a wall, a sign, a phone screen or the side of a face can be tracked through motion blur, partial occlusion and frames where the reference detail leaves the frame entirely.
That surface track drives everything else in the application. Corner pin data replaces a screen or a billboard with new content that sits correctly in perspective. Roto splines inherit the track so a mask follows a moving subject with a handful of keyframes rather than hundreds. Stabilisation locks a shot to a chosen plane, and the exported camera solve pushes a matched three dimensional camera into a compositing application.
Object removal is the feature that pays for itself on set fixes. Once a region is tracked and masked, the remove module samples clean frames from elsewhere in the shot and paints the unwanted element out across the whole sequence, filling the hole with real footage rather than a smear. Rig removal, tracking marker cleanup and unwanted signage all go the same way.
It runs either as a standalone application, which keeps heavy tracking work off the editing machine, or as a plugin inside the common editing and compositing hosts so the tracked result comes back on the same layer. Tracking and shape data exports in the formats every major compositor reads, so work done once travels between applications rather than being rebuilt.
What is included in this build
- Planar tracking that survives motion blur, occlusion and features leaving the frame
- Roto splines inheriting the track so masks follow a subject with few keyframes
- Object and rig removal filling a masked region from clean frames elsewhere in the shot
- Corner pin screen replacement with correct perspective and motion
- Stabilisation locked to a chosen surface rather than to point features
- Three dimensional camera solve exported to compositing applications
- Lens distortion calculation and undistort or redistort passes
- Runs both standalone and as a plugin inside the common hosts
Changed in version 2026.5.0
- Improved tracking on low contrast and heavily compressed footage
- Faster remove module rendering on long sequences
- New spline editing shortcuts for faster roto work
- Additional export formats for tracking and shape data
- Reduced memory use when several layers are tracked in one project
Installation walkthrough
These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.
- Close every host application before starting, including background render processes.
- Disable real-time protection until setup completes.
- Extract the archive to a folder with a short path.
- Run setup as administrator and confirm both the standalone and plugin components are selected.
- Launch the standalone application once so preferences and cache locations are set before use.
