This is the whole simulation catalogue in one installation rather than a single solver. Structural analysis for stress, deflection, buckling, fatigue and nonlinear contact sits alongside thermal analysis, computational fluid dynamics for internal and external flow, electromagnetic and high frequency solvers, and the explicit dynamics tools for impact and drop testing. A workflow that touches several physics does not need several separate installations.

Workbench holds the pieces together. Analysis systems are dropped onto a schematic and wired to each other, so the temperature field from a thermal run feeds the structural run that follows it and the deformed shape feeds the fluid run after that. Geometry, mesh, setup, solution and results are cells on a system, and updating an upstream cell marks everything downstream as out of date rather than silently leaving stale results in place.

Meshing is where most simulation time actually goes, and the mesher handles it with automatic sizing, curvature and proximity refinement, inflation layers on walls for boundary layer resolution, and quality metrics reported before a solve rather than discovered during one. Geometry cleanup tools repair the gaps, slivers and duplicate faces that arrive with imported CAD data.

Post processing covers the reporting end. Contour plots, vectors, streamlines, particle traces, animations and probe results are all generated in the results environment, custom expressions derive quantities that were not solved for directly, and a report generates from the session with images and tables in place. Parametric studies sweep dimensions or loads and tabulate the outputs for design of experiments work.

Installation

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

  1. Confirm the workstation has the memory and disk space for a full product set before starting, since this is a very large installation.
  2. Disable real-time protection for the entire install, which takes a long time on this package.
  3. Extract the image to a short path on a drive with at least 120 GB free.
  4. Run setup as administrator and select only the products actually needed rather than the whole set.
  5. Reboot once, then open Workbench and confirm the CAD interface plugins registered correctly.
Real-time protection flags installers of this type on heuristics alone. Pause it before extracting and turn it back on once the install has finished and the application has been opened once.

Frequently asked about this title

Does the whole set have to be installed?
No. Setup lists the products individually and installing only what is needed saves a very large amount of disk space.
Will it link to an installed CAD package?
Yes. The CAD interface plugins register during setup and geometry updates flow through to the analysis.
How much memory is realistic?
