Altium Designer
Schematic capture and board layout in one environment, with constraint driven routing, a 3D board view and the manufacturing output set generated from the same project.
About Altium Designer
Altium Designer covers the whole path from a blank schematic sheet to the files a board house needs, in one environment with one project file. That single environment is the point: the schematic, the layout, the library, the constraints and the outputs all reference each other, so a change to a component on the schematic propagates into the layout and into the bill of materials rather than being re-entered three times.
Layout is constraint driven rather than manual. Design rules define clearances, widths, via styles, differential pair spacing and length matching, and the router works within them, flagging a violation the moment it happens instead of at the end. Interactive routing pushes and shoves existing traces out of the way, differential pairs route as one, and length tuning adds accordion sections to match a bus without hand drawing them.
The 3D view is a genuine working tool and not a presentation feature. The board renders with real component bodies, so clearance to a case, a connector that fouls a heatsink or a part that sits over a mounting hole are all visible before a prototype exists. Mechanical models import so the board can be checked inside the enclosure it has to live in.
Manufacturing output is generated as a set rather than assembled by hand: fabrication and drill data, pick and place files, assembly drawings, bills of material with supplier information, and a full set of checks before release. Multi-sheet and hierarchical designs, variants of the same board and version controlled projects are all handled inside the same structure.
What is included in this build
- Unified schematic capture and board layout in one project structure
- Constraint driven design rules with live violation checking
- Interactive routing with push and shove, differential pairs and length tuning
- 3D board view with real component bodies and mechanical model import
- Multi-sheet hierarchical designs with board variants
- Component libraries with supplier and parameter data attached

- Version control integration and release checking before handoff
Changed in version 26.9.1.10
- Faster rendering in the 3D board view on dense assemblies
- Improved routing performance on high layer count boards
- Additional manufacturer component data in the default libraries
- Better import fidelity from other layout formats
- Reduced project load times on large multi-board designs
Installation walkthrough
These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.
- Confirm at least 20 GB of free space before starting, since the install is large.
- Disable real-time protection for the length of the installation.
- Extract the archive to a short path with no spaces in the folder name.
- Run setup as administrator and select the platform components during the feature selection step.
- Reboot once, then set the library and project paths before starting a design.
