This is the perpetual release, the one that stops before the whole product moved onto a subscription track. It installs once, runs entirely offline, never checks anything, and behaves the same in five years as it does today. For a photographer with an existing catalogue and no interest in a running cost, that is the entire argument and it is a strong one.

The workflow is the familiar module structure. Library holds the catalogue with keywords, ratings, flags, colour labels, collections and smart collections that rebuild themselves as ratings change. Develop is a full raw processor working non destructively on the original file. Map, Book, Slideshow, Print and Web handle the output end of a job.

Develop covers everything the job actually needs: exposure and tone curve, the HSL colour mixer, split toning, clarity and dehaze, lens correction profiles, transform for perspective, spot removal, graduated and radial filters and the adjustment brush. Everything is stored as instructions rather than written into the file, so any decision reverses cleanly years later.

Being an older release it has limits worth knowing. The newest camera bodies and lenses are not in the profile list, so raw files from recent hardware need converting to a neutral format first, and the modern masking that automatically finds a sky or a subject is not present here. What it does have is speed on modest hardware and complete independence from anything online.

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

1. Disable real-time protection until the install has finished.
2. Extract the archive to a short folder path.
3. Close every Adobe process including background helpers.
4. Run setup as administrator and choose the interface language.
5. Store the catalogue on a fast internal drive, never on a network share.
