Overview

About Wondershare Recoverit

Recovery work is a race against the drive being written to, and this tool is built around that fact. It reads rather than writes, it never restores onto the drive it is scanning, and it starts with a fast pass that finds recently deleted files in seconds before offering the deep scan that reconstructs data from signatures across the whole surface.

The preview is the part that matters. Found files are shown before recovery, so a document, image or video can be checked to confirm it is intact rather than recovered blindly into a folder of thousands of unusable fragments. Results filter by type, size and path, and the original folder structure is rebuilt where the file system metadata survived.

Coverage spans the situations people actually hit: emptied recycle bin, quick formatted volumes, partitions that have disappeared from the drive listing, memory cards and USB sticks that ask to be formatted before opening, and drives that have become unreadable through file system damage rather than mechanical failure. Video files get their own reconstruction path that repairs fragmented recordings from a camera card.

The bootable rescue environment builds onto a USB stick from inside the application, which is the only sensible way to recover from a system drive that will not start. It runs the same scanning engine before the installed system loads, so nothing on the damaged drive is written to during the attempt.

What is included in this build

  • Fast pass for recently deleted files followed by a deep signature based scan
  • Preview of found files before anything is recovered
  • Recovery from formatted volumes, lost partitions and inaccessible drives
  • Folder structure and file names rebuilt where the metadata survived
  • Dedicated reconstruction path for fragmented video recordings from camera cards
  • Filtering of results by file type, size and original path
  • Bootable rescue environment built onto a USB stick from inside the application
  • Read only scanning that never writes to the drive being examined
Changes

Changed in version 14.0.34.2

  • Faster deep scan on very large drives
  • Improved video reconstruction on fragmented camera recordings
  • Better handling of drives with damaged partition tables
  • Rescue media builder updated for current hardware drivers
  • Reduced memory use when a scan finds hundreds of thousands of files
Installation

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

  1. Do not install onto the drive that data is being recovered from, since that overwrites the very sectors being sought.
  2. Extract the archive and run setup as administrator on a different drive.
  3. Stop using the affected drive entirely until the scan is finished.
  4. Recover found files to a separate drive, never back onto the source.
  5. Build the bootable rescue media first if the system drive itself is the one that failed.
Real-time protection flags installers of this type on heuristics alone. Pause it before extracting and turn it back on once the install has finished and the application has been opened once.

Questions

Frequently asked about this title

Why must it not be installed on the affected drive?
Installing writes to the drive and can overwrite the sectors holding the files being recovered.
How long does a deep scan take?
Hours on a large drive. Leave it running rather than stopping it partway through.
Will every file come back?
No. Files whose sectors have been reused are gone. The preview shows what is genuinely intact.
Does it help with a physically failing drive?
Only mildly. Mechanical failure needs specialist handling, and repeated scanning can make it worse.
