WinZip has been the default answer to what opens this file for long enough that the format took its name from it. The current release is far more than a compressor: alongside reading and writing the usual archive formats, it carries a file management pane, a backup scheduler, encryption with proper key handling, and a set of conversion actions that run as files are added to an archive.

The conversion pipeline is the part that separates the Professional edition. Images can be resized and watermarked, documents converted to PDF, and files renamed by pattern, all applied automatically at the moment they enter the archive. For anyone who repeatedly prepares the same kind of package for the same recipient, that turns a ten minute job into a saved action.

Encryption is AES with the option to encrypt filenames as well as contents, and the Professional edition adds a proper key management panel rather than a single prompt. Archives can be signed, and the backup scheduler runs a job on a timetable to a local folder, a network share or a connected cloud destination without a separate backup product.

The file management side handles duplicate detection, bulk renaming, unused file cleanup and direct comparison between two folders. It is more application than most people need from an archiver, but on a machine that acts as the place files pass through, having one window that compresses, converts, encrypts and files them is a defensible way to work.

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

1. Remove any earlier release so the shell integration registers cleanly.
2. Disable real-time protection for the length of the install.
3. Extract the archive and run setup as administrator.
4. Choose which archive types to associate during setup rather than taking all of them.
5. Reboot once so the context menu entries appear correctly.
