Overview

About MiniTool Partition Wizard Pro Ultimate

The built-in disk management tool in Windows can shrink a partition until it hits an immovable file and then refuses to go further, and it cannot move a partition at all. This is the gap this application fills. Partitions resize, move, split, merge, copy and change their file system with the data left in place, and operations queue up and apply together rather than one restart at a time.

Migration is the operation most people install it for. Moving a system to a new drive, particularly a smaller solid state drive, means copying only the used space rather than the whole partition and then fixing the boot configuration so the machine actually starts from the new disk. The migration wizard handles both, and the source drive is left untouched so a failed attempt costs nothing but time.

The recovery side covers the situations where something has already gone wrong. Partition recovery scans a drive for partitions that were deleted or lost when a table was damaged and rebuilds the entries. File recovery pulls individual files off a formatted or unreadable volume. The surface test flags bad sectors, and the space analyser shows what is actually consuming a drive that has quietly filled up.

The Pro Ultimate tier adds the operations that matter on a system disk: conversion between the two partition table styles without deleting anything, dynamic to basic disk conversion, cluster size changes, and the bootable media builder. That last one is the important part, since a system partition cannot be modified while it is the one running, and a stick that boots into the same interface removes that limitation entirely.

Feature set

What is included in this build

  • Resize, move, split, merge and copy partitions with data left in place
  • Migration of a system to another drive with the boot configuration corrected
  • Conversion between partition table styles without deleting existing partitions
  • File system conversion and cluster size changes on existing volumes
  • Partition recovery rebuilding entries lost from a damaged table
  • File recovery from formatted or unreadable volumes
  • Surface testing for bad sectors and a space analyser for full drives
  • Bootable media builder for working on a system partition offline
Changes

Changed in version 12.8

  • Faster cloning on drives with very large used capacities
  • Improved boot configuration repair after a system migration
  • Better handling of drives with mixed sector sizes
  • Bootable media builder updated for current hardware
  • Reduced time to apply queued operations on a restart
Installation

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

  1. Back up anything important before touching a partition table, since these operations rewrite it.
  2. Extract the archive and run the installer as administrator.
  3. Build the bootable media first if the system partition itself is going to be modified.
  4. Queue the operations, review the pending list carefully, then apply them together.
  5. Allow the machine to restart when an operation on a locked volume requires it, and do not interrupt it.
Real-time protection flags installers of this type on heuristics alone. Pause it before extracting and turn it back on once the install has finished and the application has been opened once.

Questions

Frequently asked about this title

Is resizing a system partition safe?
It is a well established operation, but a partition table rewrite always carries risk. Back up first, and use the bootable media for the system volume.
Can it clone to a smaller drive?
Yes, provided the used space fits. Only used space is copied rather than the whole partition.
Will the machine boot from the new drive after migration?
Yes. The migration wizard writes the boot configuration for the target drive as part of the operation.
What if an operation is interrupted?
Do not interrupt one. If power is lost mid operation, recovery from the bootable media is the route back, which is why backups matter here.
