Drives report far more about their own condition than anyone ever looks at. Reallocated sector counts, pending sectors, read error rates, spin up behaviour, power on hours, temperature history and, on solid state media, the percentage of rated write endurance already consumed. This application reads all of it continuously and turns it into two numbers per drive: health and performance, each as a percentage with a plain explanation underneath.

The value is in the warning window. A drive rarely fails without notice, it degrades over weeks while the reallocated sector count climbs, and the health percentage falls in step. Configured alerts fire on a threshold, a temperature limit or a specific attribute change, and they can trigger a message, a sound, an email or a command that starts a backup while the drive is still readable.

The testing tools go beyond passive monitoring. Short and extended self tests are launched from the interface, surface scans read or write across the whole drive to find weak areas, and a write and read back test verifies media on a new or suspect drive before it is trusted with anything. Solid state drives get their own endurance and lifetime estimate rather than being reported with mechanical drive metrics.

It supports drives behind the awkward interfaces too: internal serial and older parallel drives, external enclosures over USB, memory cards, and drives inside many hardware raid controllers where the operating system hides the members. Logs record every reading over time, so a slow degradation is visible as a trend rather than as a single alarming number.

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

1. Extract the archive and run the installer as administrator.
2. Allow the low level access driver to install when prompted, since diagnostic reading requires it.
3. Let the first scan complete so a baseline reading exists for every attached drive.
4. Configure alert thresholds and a destination before relying on the monitoring.
5. Set the application to start with the system so monitoring is continuous.
