This is the standalone offline installer rather than the small stub that fetches everything during setup. On a machine being built without a working network connection, or on a bench setting up several machines from one folder, that distinction is the entire point. The package contains the complete runtime and installs without touching the internet at all.

The browser itself needs little introduction. The rendering engine underneath it is the one most of the web is now tested against, so pages behave as their authors intended, and the developer tools built into it are comprehensive enough that a great deal of front end work is done inside them rather than in a separate application.

Security is handled through process isolation and a rapid update cadence. Each tab and each extension runs in its own sandboxed process, so a page that crashes or misbehaves takes down only itself, and site isolation keeps content from different origins in separate processes entirely. Safe browsing warns before a known bad page loads, and updates apply in the background without interrupting a session.

The working features are the familiar ones: profiles that keep separate sets of extensions, history and settings apart, tab groups and pinned tabs for keeping a large session organised, a password and payment manager, reading list, translation on the fly, and an extension ecosystem large enough that almost any workflow gap has something filling it.

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

1. Close any running instance of the browser completely, including background processes.
2. Extract the archive to any folder with a short path.
3. Run the installer as administrator for a machine wide install, or as the user for a profile only install.
4. Choose whether to make it the default handler during first launch.
5. Sign in or import bookmarks and passwords from the previous browser afterwards.
