Avast Premium Security
A full protection package with the paid tier modules unlocked, covering real-time scanning, firewall, ransomware shielding and network inspection.
About Avast Premium Security
The free build of Avast covers file scanning and not much else. The Premium tier is where the rest of the modules live, and this package has them all switched on: the firewall, the ransomware shield that locks specified folders against unknown processes, the sandbox for running a suspicious executable in isolation, the real site module that checks a domain before the browser reaches it, and the network inspector that reports weak configuration on a home router.
The scanning engine works on several layers at once. A file shield watches anything written or executed, a behaviour shield watches what running processes actually do rather than what they claim to be, a web shield inspects traffic before it reaches the browser, and a mail shield checks attachments. Definitions update in the background without a restart, and a full system pass can be scheduled for a time when the machine is idle.
The quieter features are the ones people keep it for. Boot time scanning runs before the desktop loads, which catches things that hide once the session is up. The rescue media builder writes a bootable stick for a machine that will no longer start cleanly. The software updater flags outdated applications with known problems, and the sensitive data shield reports which documents on the drive contain personal information.
Configuration is deeper than the default interface suggests. Every shield can be tuned individually, exclusions accept paths, extensions and process names, and passive mode lets it sit alongside another protection product without the two fighting for the same hooks. Silent mode suppresses every popup for anything running full screen.

Installation walkthrough
These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.
- Remove any other protection product completely first, since two real-time engines on one machine conflict.
- Extract the archive and run the installer as administrator.
- Choose a custom install and deselect the browser components if they are not wanted.
- Reboot once so the shields and the firewall driver load in the correct order.
- Run a full system scan on the first idle period after installation.
