Adobe Animate
Frame based and rig based 2D animation with a real drawing engine underneath, publishing to video, image sequences, HTML canvas and sprite sheets.
About Adobe Animate
Animate is the direct descendant of the tool that most of the web's early animation was drawn in, and the timeline model has barely changed because it did not need to. Keyframes sit on a layer, tweens fill the gaps, and symbols nest inside symbols so a walk cycle drawn once becomes a component reused across a whole sequence. Anyone who learned animation in this interface can still work in it today.
The drawing side is genuinely capable rather than an afterthought. Vector brushes respond to pressure and tilt, the paint bucket closes small gaps automatically, and the frame picker makes lip sync a matter of dropping mouth shapes against an audio track rather than keyframing each one. Bitmap brushes are supported for anyone who prefers a textured line.
Rigging covers the other half of the workflow. The bone tool builds an armature inside a symbol so a character can be posed and tweened rather than redrawn frame by frame, layer parenting links limbs to a body without a full rig, and the asset warp tool deforms artwork with pins for gestures that would otherwise take a dozen drawings.
Publishing is where it stays useful. The same document outputs video, image sequences, animated GIF, sprite sheets for a game engine, HTML canvas with JavaScript for the browser, and the older interactive formats for anyone maintaining legacy content. Actions can be attached to the timeline directly, which keeps simple interactive pieces inside one file.
What is included in this build

- Pressure and tilt sensitive vector brushes plus bitmap brush support
- Bone tool armatures and layer parenting for rigged character animation
- Asset warp with pins for deforming artwork without redrawing
- Frame picker and audio scrubbing for lip sync work
- Camera layer with pan, zoom and rotation across a whole scene
- Publishing to video, image sequences, GIF, sprite sheets and HTML canvas
- Onion skinning with adjustable range and coloured frame display
Changed in version 24.0.14.24
- Faster timeline scrubbing on documents with many nested symbols
- Improved vector brush responsiveness on tablet input
- Sprite sheet export packing made more efficient
- Better handling of very long audio tracks during lip sync work
- Reduced document load times on files with large bitmap libraries
Installation walkthrough
These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.
- Disable real-time protection for the length of the install.
- Extract the archive to a short folder path with no spaces.
- Close every Adobe process including background helpers.
- Run setup as administrator and pick the interface language.
- Configure tablet pressure settings in preferences before drawing.
