After Effects handles the shots an editor cannot finish on a timeline: titles that move, screen replacements, sky fixes, rig removal, and the whole class of work where every frame gets touched. It is a layer based compositor with a keyframe engine underneath, which makes it far more approachable than a node graph for motion design while still being deep enough for cleanup work.

The tracking and roto tools carry most of the weight. The 3D camera tracker solves a moving shot and drops a matched camera into the composition so text sits in the scene rather than on top of it. The mocha planar tracker follows surfaces through blur and partial occlusion, and the roto brush isolates a moving subject in a fraction of the time a hand-drawn mask takes.

Expressions turn repetitive keyframing into a few lines of script. Linking a layer property to a slider, driving a whole animation from one control layer, or offsetting fifty duplicates by index are all short expressions rather than long keyframe passes, and the expression editor now has proper syntax highlighting and error reporting.

Rendering is either local or handed to Media Encoder. Multi-frame rendering uses the cores that are actually present rather than leaving most of them idle, and the disk cache means a scrub back through a heavy composition plays rather than crawling.

Installation walkthrough

These steps assume a clean machine. If a previous release of the same application is present, deal with that first, since an overlapping install is the most common cause of a setup that stops halfway.

1. Pause protection software before extracting the archive.
2. Extract to a short path on a drive with plenty of free space for the disk cache.
3. Close all Adobe processes from Task Manager, including background helpers.
4. Run setup as administrator and pick the interface language.
5. Point the disk cache at a fast internal drive on first launch.
